Amsterdam-based artist and DJ upsammy, also known as Thessa Torsing, creates music that is hard to put into one category. Her sound mixes soft melodies with detailed rhythms, often blending digital and natural elements. She says curiosity is at the heart of her work — music that feels like it’s being discovered, rather than following a set formula.
upsammy’s journey into electronic music started as a teenager after attending her first rave in Sloterdijk. She soon began organizing underground parties with friends, where she also learned how to DJ and produce. In 2016, her track Zona gained attention on SoundCloud, leading to her first EP Another Place. She has since released music on labels like Dekmantel and PAN, and performed at venues such as NTS Radio and Amsterdam’s Garage Noord.
For Carhartt WIP Radio, upsammy has shared a mix of her own music, combining calm, ambient sounds with more energetic, club-style tracks. In her interview, she talks about how places, nature, and walking influence her music, as well as how clubs can feel like small communities.
