Gramicci: Japanese Denim

For its latest Fall-Winter collection, Gramicci explores the history of Japanese denim. The denim is made in the Kojima-Kurashiki area of Okayama, a region with a long history of cotton, indigo dyeing, and denim production. The fabric uses traditional techniques designed for everyday movement, from climbing and biking to getting around the city.

The collection includes a Denim Trucker Jacket and 5-Pocket Denim Pant in 12 oz., 100% cotton denim. The jacket takes cues from traditional workwear, while the pants are straight-legged and finished with Gramicci’s signature webbing belt. Both styles come in True Black and Indigo Rinse, with a suede patch on the back.

The denim is made to evolve with wear. The yarn is indigo- and sulfur-dyed in Japan, then ring-spun there as well. The fabric is woven and finished there, then garment-washed for a softer feel. Over time, as you wear and wash them, natural fades, whiskering, and roping develop, making the denim increasingly your own.
