Carhartt WIP is marking 50 years of the Active Jacket with four special edition designs that honor the original’s history and evolution. First introduced in 1975, the jacket was inspired by the classic Hooded Zip Sweatshirt but rebuilt with a tougher outer shell and warm lining. The first version came in denim with a red flannel interior, later followed by the duck canvas style that became the most recognized version. In 1997, Carhartt WIP introduced its own take — the OG Active Jacket — known for its loose fit, triple stitching, and gold-tone hardware.
For the anniversary, Carhartt WIP has created four reversible styles, each keeping the classic look while adding new materials and colors. Two are made from Dearborn Canvas — one in black with a red lining, and one in Hamilton Brown with a new camo trebark pattern inside. The third design brings back denim with a stone-bleached finish and a red quilted lining decorated with patches and embroidery. The final version is made from leather, featuring a reversible Dearborn Canvas interior in Hamilton Brown for a refined yet familiar feel.
The history of the Active Jacket reflects Carhartt WIP’s journey — built from functional workwear and worn by people from all walks of life. Over the decades, it has become a cultural staple seen in music, skateboarding, film, and fashion, always keeping its authentic,
timeless appeal.
