Carhartt WIP Radio's latest episode features Juan Atkins, a key figure in the development of Detroit techno. Known by names such as Model 500 and Infiniti, Atkins helped shape the genre in the early 1980s as part of the group Cybotron. He later founded Metroplex Records, a label that became known for its stripped-down, futuristic approach to electronic music.

To mark Metroplex’s 40th anniversary, Atkins has created a mix that looks back at the label’s history. The set includes music from his own catalog, as well as tracks from artists connected to the label, including his daughter Milan Ariel and techno pioneer Robert Hood. The mix gives listeners a view into the evolving sound of Metroplex over four decades.

Since its founding in 1985, Metroplex has played an important role in shaping electronic music, especially in Detroit. The label is known for pushing forward-thinking ideas and focusing on rhythm and minimalism rather than mainstream trends. The full mix is available now through Carhartt WIP Radio.
